Software req's Microsoft .NET Framework version 1.1 Service Pack 1

I have received this message for several programs I have tried to install.
Then after I click "yes" from "would you like to install this now" it says:

SLA.tmp-Common Language Runtime Debugging Services:
Application has generated an exception that could not be handled.
Process id=0xc40 (3136), Thread id=0xc98 (3224)

Click OK to terminate the papplication or CANCEL to debug the application

-----------------------------------

Also if I try to install 1.1 from windowsupdate.com I get:
The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is
unavailable. Click OK to try again or enter an alternative path to a folder
containing the installation package 'netfx.msi'.

But, netfx.msi is nowhere to be found on my computer...

I have downloaded .NET Framework 3.0 from microsoftupdate.com but still get
this error . I have also read the article
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;320474 which was not
helpful b/c I cannot get Winzip without buying the program and once I click
on Dotnetfx.exe from my Windows component CD I get an error message.

Please help this is rather frustrating.

Thank you.

Try the newsgroup
microsoft.public.dotnet.framework.setup
for .NET Framework setup advice.

Search Google for a free utility called "7-Zip".
It will unzip and zip files for you.
