RTHDCPL.EXE - Illegal System DLL Relocation

Hi there.
I am a XP Professional user and recently the following message appears at
the startup of my PC:
RTHDCPL.EXE - Illegal System DLL Relocation
The System DLL user32.dll was relocated in memory. The application will not
run properly. The relocation occured because the DLL
C:\WINDOWS\system32\HHCTRL.OCX occupied an address range reserved for Windows
system DLLs. The vendor supplying the DLL should be contacted for a new DLL.

How can I solve this?
Help please

Hi G,

Have a look at this MSKB article:

The Realtek HD Audio Control Panel may not start, and you receive an error
message when you start the computer: "Illegal System DLL Relocation"
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b/935448/en-us

Re: RTHDCPL.EXE - Illegal System DLL Relocation

I still have not clicked on "OK" from the original start-up. (Yes, I've been moving this window around all morning while I try to figure this out). Luckily, I have not experienced any problems.

My question is, what would be the advantage of the "hotfix" vs. just uninstalling the Update that caused it?

Re: RTHDCPL.EXE - Illegal System DLL Relocation

Since the updates are security patches, uninstalling the updates would render
the user's computer vulnerable to possible "attack":

Microsoft Security Bulletin MS07-008
Vulnerability in HTML Help ActiveX Control Could Allow Remote Code Execution
(928843)
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../ms07-008.mspx

Microsoft Security Bulletin MS07-017
Vulnerabilities in GDI Could Allow Remote Code Execution (925902)
