Did an error pop up about it after installing an update today from windows update? If so just can some of the recent posts here. It has been asked/answered several times. If it's not that, then repost with more details of what actually is occurring. -- Rock [MS-MVP User/Shell] |

| Re: faulting module hhctrl.ocx no it's been happening for almost a week now, i updated the new security file today but it's still isn't working. itunes will not load at all, just thinks about it and pops up a "encountered a problem needs to close" window. Event viewer says its an application error, and due to faulting module hhctrl.ocx, then it gives version and address. here is some text from the properties of the event. Application Failure itunes.exe 7.1.1.5 in hhctrl.ocx 5.2.3790.2847 at offset 000d 0a 02bda6.. and basically the same malfunction with Help and Support Center And my quicktime is running fine so i don't think that is related... umm if you have any more questions i try to answer the best i can. -J "Rock" wrote: > "shadowforth" <shadowforth@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote > > How do I replace this thing, it's crashing my iTunes and Help and Support > > Centre > > I've tried to register it but to no avail. > > Did an error pop up about it after installing an update today from windows > update? From Start | Run regsvr32 HHCTRL.OCX Ok. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...=Google+Search http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=e...=1&sa=N&tab=wg You said this started about a week ago. Did you try a system restore to before the problem started? What changes were made to the system between the times things worked and when the problem surfaced? -- Rock [MS-MVP User/Shell] |

| Re: faulting module hhctrl.ocx Ok, ran that again, (and several times before) but still no go, I guess it would have started after I forced my computer to shutdown, it was closing down and at the time it was hanging alot so I forced it, (held down the power button) I know this is probably a really bad idea. well anyway, get back and a chkdsk runs and i figured "that's normal, well then it started doing it every time i rebooted, (and this is also when iTunes started failing). so i went to system tools chk'd both of my drives, then I deleted a lot of old mp3 files video files, and programs to clear up space because my drives were getting full, then i defragged and have since been trying to the itunes problem. > Ok, try this. So have you tried a system restore? -- Rock [MS-MVP User/Shell] |

| Re: faulting module hhctrl.ocx "shadowforth" <shadowforth@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote > No, do you think I should? Yes I would try it. First I would make sure I had a current image of the drive. I use Acronis True Image Home version 10 to make compressed images of the drive to an external hard drive. I make sure I have a current image before making any significant changes. If you don't employ a drive imaging system, then you have to decide if you want to try it. Personally I would. Normally if a restore doesn't help you can undo the restore. But as for years now, as I said earlier, I don't make major changes without having a current image. By the way, as a tip, you need to quote at least a portion of the message to which you reply to keep the context. Many people use a newsreader and only download the current messages (as I do) so they might not see the old messages in a thread. That's why it's standard protocol in a Usenet newsgroup to quote. This is not a forum, despite the fact that MS provides a web interface (which is I think truly awful way to access newsgroups). -- Rock [MS-MVP User/Shell] |

Version 10 is the latest and works in both XP and Vista, but many use v.9 for imaging in XP. -- Rock [MS-MVP User/Shell] |
