| How to Stop Auto-Expand on Hover in Folders Pane of Windows Explor So, I'm dragging some files, in Widows Explorer, over to the Folders pane, and hovering a moment while I make sure I'm aiming at the right folder. Typically, just when I release the mouse button, the intended destination folder expands, that folder shifts up, and the files are dropped into some subfolder. This is just irritating when I notice it and have to search for the files, but it can be a real problem if I don't notice it at the time. So, how do I suppress this auto-expand behavior, or whatever you'd call it? Thanks, Drew |

Right-click the Start button, click Properties, Customize button, Advanced tab, it's the top choice. -- Joe =o) |

| Re: How to Stop Auto-Expand on Hover in Folders Pane of Windows Ex Hi Elmo, The Start Menu "Open submenus when I pause" setting changes a behavior in the Start Menu that is kind of similar to the behavior I'm trying to change in Explorer, but the Start Menu setting doesn't do anything for Explorer. I'm hoping there's a similar setting in Explorer, even if it's a Registry setting. The Windows Explorer replacement Explorer2, for example, can turn this behavior on and off; they call it "Automatic branch expansion when hovering on a node". I'd rather use Windows Explorer if I can, because of the add-ons available for it, particularly dBPowerAmp's detailed tooltip info for media files. So, I'm still looking for that setting in Windows Explorer. Thanks for any help, Drew "Elmo" wrote: > dtronvig wrote: > > So, I'm dragging some files, in Widows Explorer, over to the Folders pane, > > and hovering a moment while I make sure I'm aiming at the right folder. > > Typically, just when I release the mouse button, the intended destination > > folder expands, that folder shifts up, and the files are dropped into some > > subfolder.
