Disk Clean up and Defrag Windows XP Pro

Hello,

I have schedule disk clean up and defrag to run at a specific time, but the
problem I am having is even though the utility starts up, I have to
physically start the utility.

How do you advise I configure both of these utility?

Jason

Re: Disk Clean up and Defrag Windows XP Pro

William,

Thanks for your quick reply. I have only tried the Defrag instructions you
suggested and it worked except, When I went back into the Defrag utility it
appeared that there was not a defrag performed because my drive show heavy
fragmented squares. How do you advise?

Thanks,

Jason

Re: Disk Clean up and Defrag Windows XP Pro

Hi Jessica,

Could you provide me the command line you used for the Scheduled Defrag?

If you open the Schedule Tasks folder and right-click the Defrag task to
select Properties. The Command line will be in the Run section (box) of the
task.

Re: Disk Clean up and Defrag Windows XP Pro

Does your User Account have a password? This may be the problem because I
believe you need an Account with a password to start a scheduled task.

If your user account has no password then you might want to look at this
article:

Scheduled Tasks - Applying/Running tasks without a password
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_abc.htm

Automated Reg edit for:
For Home: Run Scheduled Task without a Password (Line 67)

Re: Disk Clean up and Defrag Windows XP Pro

William,

At first I expirenced that problem and I was able to figure out what the
problem was. So I did create a password to be setup, which I did and the
defrag was able to run.
