DVD-RW Drive Shows up as DVD-RW and CD-Drive in Windows Explorer

I have a weird situation going on with my DVD-RW drive. I have a Sony
DRU-710A DVD-RW drive installed on my machine with no other optical drives
installed. For the last couple of weeks, the drive has been showing up twice
in Windows Explorer with two different drive letters. It shows up as drive
as a DVD-RW (Drive E:) and as a CD-ROM (Drive G:).

I have made sure that I am running the latest firmware version of the drive
and I have not made any changes to the system or installed any new software.
Sony's support could not provide any useful information.

Does anyone have any ideas what might be causing this issue? I am running
Windows XP Home with SP2 installed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: DVD-RW Drive Shows up as DVD-RW and CD-Drive in Windows Explorer

Run regedit and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\MountedDevices,
and delete the entries for E: and G:.
Reboot.

Andy,

Thanks, but it didn't work. I deleted the E: and G: drives as instructed
and rebooted. However, the G: drive came back.

Leave it as is. Won't hurt anything. Everything will work
normally.
