Does anyone know if the Windows Picture & Fax Viewer has a cache memory of
images viewed?? I recently had someone who had viewed an image, exited the
Viewer, went back in and the same image was still available for viewing.

If it does have a cache, how can it be emptied??

Note that the "Windows Picture & Fax Viewer" is a .DLL file rather than
a stand-alone application. By default, it opens via double-click on an
associated graphics file rather than showing an empty window. Therefore,
'someone' has opened the same file again via double-click, most likely.

Everything that you view on web pages is downloaded to your machine. These
files are stored in the Temporary Internet Files folders.

To delete *all* of your Temporary Internet Files...

1) Start | Run | Type: inetcpl.cpl | Click OK
Or right click the Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop
Or Start | Settings | Control Panel | Internet Options
Best to do this with all instances of Internet Explorer closed. Especially
if there are a large number of files. Also close OE.
2) On the General Tab, in the middle of the screen, click on Delete Files
3) Check the box: Delete all offline content {This cleans >>
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files
AND
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5
and \Content.MSO (Created by an MS Office program)}
4) Click on OK and wait for the hourglass icon to stop after it deletes the
temporary internet files
5) You can now click on Delete Cookies and click OK to delete cookies that
websites have placed on your hard drive.
6) You can also click on the Clear History button to empty your History
folder.

Note: If you do NOT select the Delete all offline content box, not
everything will be cleaned out.

Content.IE5 is a hidden system folder.

Windows Internet Explorer 7 does not have a Delete all offline content
option.

If you have unwanted images in the Windows Picture Fax Viewer, (especially when selecting the PRINT option) you will need to clear the temp files. Clearing cookies and IE temp files won't do it.

Select START and RUN and type "%temp%" without the quotation marks (that is a percent character, not a 96!). This will bring up a new window with all the temp folders that Windows has created. If you click VIEW in this window and select Thumbnails you will be able to view all of the graphics in all supported formats (jpg, gif, png etc.). From here you can selectively delete the unwanted images. Don't forget to empty the recycle bin too!
