Windows backup

I am running windows xp home edition on a dell pentium. I am using windows
backup to maxtor external hard drive. Occaisionally the back up will freeze.
The problem is intermittent, but occurs most with full backups. Any ideas
what might be causing the problem?

Need more information, such as size of files being backed up, the
size of the paging file, amount of RAM installed, external HD size,
etc. Also, any additional information from Event Viewer?

Re: Windows backup

It is doing a full backup so the resultant file is 28 gigs. Event viewer
doesn't appear to have recorded the event. I have 768 mg of ram. The
external hard drive is 250 gigs. Sorry but don't anything about paging file.
