System hangs up when using dialup modem to access the internet

I just built a computer for my mother and hooked it up for her this weekend.
At my place everything worked fine except that I was unable to test the
modem. When installed at her house everything seems to work fine except when
I connect to the internet using the dialup modem, after a minute or so, the
computer hangs and I have to hit the reset button. Even Ctrl/Alt/Del doesn't
work. Since this is a new system for her, I need to connect to the internet
to install all of the software for her peripherals. Any advice on what may
be causing this issue?

Click Start > Run, type in: eventvwr.msc and press Enter.
Click once on Application in the left pane.
Scroll through the right pane for error events denoted by a Yellow triangle with a
bang symbol or a red circle with an x.
Double click on the error event to see the details of the error along with a link to
a possible solution.

You don't necessarily need web access from that machine, if you have access to
another machine you can download all the files you need, burn them to a disk and then
either copy/move them to her machine for installation or simply install them from the
disk.
