Shutting down...

Lately, maybe for the last three weeks, when I shutdown my computer using
Start, Turn Off Computer, Turn Off, the system goes through its normal slow
process and then hangs at "Shutting down..."
Even if I let it go overnigth, the system will be at the same point next
morning.
Something is not releasing the system. How can I find out what is causing
the problem?
I will appreciate some suggestions.

Re: Shutting down...

it is tricky to figure out.

to me it would be somekind of
a hardware issue that couldn't
be disabled at shutdown, so the
system hangs.

here is alink that will likely give
you more information

Re: Shutting down...

Thank you for the information. Microsoft has a patch as of Feb 19 for this
particular problem.
Since it does not happen every time, I will wait for the March updates and
hopefully it will contain the patch. Thanks.

RE: Shutting down...

On my particular computer (Dell 2400 series) you can push the - "on" button
to your computer - hold it in continuiously for about 6 seconds or until the
screen goes blank. It will then correctly close down. You may have a virus or
just not enough RAM - have you defrag your system lately ran you virus
protection? Just a thought - Craig
