Hi All

Not sure where to post this so hope this is the right place. Desktop O/S is
Windows XP.

We read from & update a number of .ini files from our applications. This
works in several sites across various operating systems. However, we have
come across a really odd problem at one site.

If the .ini file is on a shared/networked drive then we can save to it
initially, say 4 or 5 times, but then it won't allow us to save and comes up
with a message suggesting that the user does not have the permission of that
the pathname is incorrect. This problem occurs specifically with .ini files
but not .txt files.

Here's what we've tried - just using Notepad so not reading from/writing to
with any of our in-house applications:

1. Create a file on the PC's C: drive using NotePad. Save it with an
extension of .ini. Open the file & modify it. Save it. Open/modify/save
again. All works as you would expect.

2. Create a file on a shared drive using NotePad. Save it with an
extension of .ini. Open the file & modify it. Save it. Open/modify/save
again. This works 4 or 5 times before coming up with the error message
described above.

The error occurs whether the PC is connected to the (NT) network or for 2x
PCs using just a simple peer to peer setup with a shared drive.

3. The site runs McAffee. We have tried removing that from the two test PCs
but the problem still occurs.

4. Neither the files nor the folders they sit in are read only.

5. The users have full permissions.

Has anyone come across this problem before or have any ideas of what we can
do to resolve it?
