| Update Shield Disappears from tray Has anyone else noticed that when updates are downloading the shield is in the tray, but when the updates are finished downloading it disappears? It used to just sit there waiting for you to click on and install the updates. I have automatic updates set to download but not automatically install. It has been set this way for over a year. But now it seems it will only allow me to update when I shut down them machine. Then I don't have a choice on what is updating. It just installs all of them. Holiday |

You might want to look through the posts in and if needed post to the experts in the Windows Update newsgroup. microsoft.public.windowsupdate -- Rock [MS-MVP User/Shell] |

Windows Genuine Advantage system (WGA) is the "so called" security check to make sure that you/we are using Genuine valid XP license key. The system "dials" home to MS to check periodically (for me, every time I restart my XPs.) |

The system "dials" home to MS to check periodically (for me, >every time I restart my XPs.) It's not the WGA shield, it's the yellow update shield. It will even give me a status of the % completed when I roll the mouse over it.. I'll check a minute later and it is at 12% then 40% then 57% ect. about 4 minutes later it just disappears. When I go to shutdown, I'm given the option to shutdown after updates are installed or "click here to shutdown without installing updates". I apologize for posting to the wrong group. I didn't know about microsoft.public.windowsupdate. I'll ask there. Thanks for responding. Holiday |
