| Internet Explorer Start Page problem Hi, Our son was using this computer and must have navigated to some page that attempted to change the start page so Norton Internet Security intercepts it and sets it to some other start page that directs you how to fix the problem. But the start page is kind of locked up so no matter what I type in the Tools/Internet Options/General/Homepage text box for the first entry, it doesn't accept it. I can set secondary start pages, but that Start Page registry item seems locked. Last time this happened I just deleted every key that had that Norton URL in it and I was then able to set my start page again. This time it didn't work so well. I deleted the "Start Page" registry variable from the registry so I know longer have this registry item: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\Start Page I am not able to create a new value either. It lets me create one, but then I can't change it's value, and in fact, it is not really created because if I close regedit and come back, Start Page is missing. So it seemed to let me delete this key, but I can't create it. So now our home page is stuck on about:blank and I can't seem to do anything to fix it. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance, Steve |

Have you contacted Symantec tech support about this issue? Also have you done a thorough scan for malware? Malware Removal http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/...moving_Malware THE PARASITE FIGHT Finding, Removing & Protecting Yourself From Scumware http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm Richard Harper's Guide to Cleaning Pests http://rgharper.mvps.org/cleanit.htm In my opinion you are better off without NIS, NAV or Norton System Works. The two former programs are resource heavy and can cause problems sooner or later. There are better alternatives, some of which are free: Anti-Virus: Avast, AVG, NOD32; Firewalls: Sunbelt Software Kerio Personal Firewall, Comodo Personal Firewall, and Zone Alarm; non viral malware protection: Windows Defender, Ad-Aware SE Personal, SpyBot S&D, BHO Demon, SpywareBlaster. -- Rock [MS-MVP User/Shell] |

Also check for malwares as Norton not a Complete Anti-spyware software. Scan for malwares from here: http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad-...e_personal.php http://www.safer-networking.org ; for Spybot S&D HTH. nass |
