Ststem backup and system restore.

I would like to perform a system backup to an external storage dive and need
to know how. I would also like to do the same with system restore.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
It takes approximately 50 CD's to backup my syustem to CD so I figured if I
could bakup to a storage drive it would make things that much qicker and
easier.
Thankyou

Buy Acronis True Image. It will do everything in the way of backing
up that you want it to do. It will restore from within Windows or by
booting to a bootable CD and you can handle things from there.

As for using system restore with an external drive, it doesn't work
that way.

There are a variety of backup solutions available. I recommend a drive
imaging program which saves a compressed image of the drive. This can be
stored on the external drive. Restores can be done of the full drive or
individual files. Programs that do this are Acronis True Image, Norton
Ghost and Terabyte Unlimited Image for Windows.

I'm not sure what you mean by doing the same with system restore. If you
mean the System Restore function in XP, it saves restore points on each
volume that's monitored. You can't redirect these to an external drive.

I'd just want to add to Rock's answer, that there is also very good soft - Paragon Drive Backup. We used it as corporate solution and I liked it very much, so I removed Acronis True Image from my home PC and installed Drive Backup personal. You can find a trial on their site Paragon Drive Backup: disk imaging, disk cloning, system backup and try it yourself.
