| HD running constantly This concerns a Toshiba notebook running on XP SP2. For the past few days, I've noticed that, even when I am doing nothing, the HD is hard at work doing something. By this I mean I hear a faint constant irregular clicking and the HD LCD is flickering. I am well protected with software firewall (ZA), virus checker and frequently check for malware. Even when I turn off my internet connection, the HD activity continues. When I open the Windows task manager and look at processes, the top one is ApntEx.exe and it appears to be flickering. Yet this is the driver for my touchpad. The highest CPU figure I can see in the Taskmanager is 98 for "System Idle Process". Is there a way to identify what is making the HD run constantly? The CPU Usage is listed in taskmanager as 3-4% I also have HDD Health installed and it says there is no known problem with the HD with a 90% accuracy. After writing all this, the HD sound just stopped ..... ! I restarted all the programs I previously had on (Mailwasher, Outlook Express, Firefox) and the busy HD sound did not return. Very weird. Suggestions as to what is going on? Jeff |
