| Unable to install USB 2 devices I have been unable to install any USB 2 devices on the USB ports. These now include a 3 in 1 printer; external drive; MP3 player and an iPod. Operating system is XP Home Edition version 2002. Device driver indicated enhanced host controller. Tech support from the printer manufacturer tried multiple workarounds. I'm open for suggestions re downloads to update or other solutions. Thanks, Andrea Gordon |

| Re: Unable to install USB 2 devices Controller & Hubs may be misidentified by XP. Requires adding a System Environment Variable: DevMgr_Show_NonPresent_Devices and set it's value = 1 Open Device Manager, Click View, tic/check "Show Hidden Devices" First check for the existence of a "Other Devices" category. If it exists then XP detected/enumerated devices but was unable to load a driver or match it's GUID (Globally Unique ID) to determine vendor/model. Uninstall all devices in the Other Devices category. Also check the Universal Serial Bus controller category. Look for any instances of "Unknown Devices" if they exist uninstall them. Then download/run the Chipset Driver package for your specific MB. Will likely be either Intel/Via/nVidia or SIS. After updating the Chipset package, reboot and XP should properly identify your USB hardware. A silly suggestion perhaps, but check the bios setting. There is usually and option to enable usb and usb legacy support. Dave Cohen |
