close window and lose internet

Recently, whenever I get to a window that does not have a "back" button and I
click on X to leave that particular window, I lose all previous windows and
must sign on to the internet again. If there are "back" buttons, I can go
back without any problem. Is this to do with my recently upgrade to XP and
what can I do?

Instead of going back, why don't you just go to a new location by
typing in the url in the address line, or selecting one of your
favorites?

Re: close window and lose internet

Thanx, Darryl. That's a good suggestion. I would still like to know why it
is happening, though.

Re: close window and lose internet

More importantly, I often need to get back to the previous window. It might
not be in my favorites nor would I know its url. Thanx for your suggestion.

Re: close window and lose internet

Bill,
You are in the wrong NG, if you have an issue with IE6 or IE7 send to the IE
NG which relevant to your Q.
You will not get the complete answer here it is General NG for XP, so try
one of the IE NG according to the Version of your IE and post with more Info
about the IE Version, do you have the back Button at all or is it happen with
some websites.
Here is the IE NG:
http://www.microsoft.com/communities...&lang=en&cr=US
HTH.

Re: close window and lose internet

Thanks so much, nass. Yes, it only happens on occassional windows. I can go
back many times and suddenly I will come to a window where the "back" button
is clouded and I have to X out.
