| Will my External Hard Drive work on Windows 7? Hi all, Just picked up a Western Digital EHD for my current XP system. However, we may be upgrading soon to a 64-bit WIndows 7 system. The box (it was made before W7 was released) does not mention compatibility with Windows 7. Will is work anyway? |

Will is work anyway? As long as the connectors mate, it'll work. If you give exact model numbers, then a more detailed answer could be given. External hard drives have USB2, Firewire 400 or Firewire 800, or ESATA interfaces. (It could even be SCSI, but that isn't common.) A computer is most likely to have USB2 connectors by default. The other connector types are optional and a function of price. Or alternately, add-in cards can be purchased separately, to make up for any shortcomings of the new computer. For example, a PCI to USB2 card would give USB ports, if for some strange reason, the desktop computer had none. Paul |
