| Stop program from installing Whenever I start my computer a program tries to install itself. It first is Windows Installer and then it is Roxio Media Manager. Installer I can at least understand--except that I did not ask to have anything installed, at least as far as I know. I figured out how to stop at least some programs from starting by going to msconfig in Run. But this Roxio prgram is not installed. On restart it tries t oinstall, I click cancel, it spenmds a few minutes thinking about my action, then tries again to install. Then the cycle repeats. THis adds to the infernally long time it takes for the macine to restart. How can I get rid of tis unwanted software and keep it from trying to install? |

Sounds like something you did install lately (or tried to install) didn't install properly and is still hanging around in a startup location wanting to install and complete, but can't. What was the last thing(s) you installed and did the installation go smoothly? You could guess and try things to fix it, but it would be best to figure out what it is exactly. As DL references the link to the The Windows Installer Cleanup Utility - it is a good place to start, but it will offer you a list of all programs that have ever been installed with the Windows Installer, not just broken installations so don't just start deleting things if offers. You need to find just the afflicted installation and delete just that one. WICU is also not the way to uninstall things - you do that through Add/Remove Programs if you can, so look there too/first. Then you can just reinstall the afflicted application. You can always uninstall WICU later or if it doesn't look like it will help you, in which case report what you find if you still have difficulty. |

| Re: Stop program from installing I suspect it has something to do with my Blackberry. But the program does not show up in Add/Remove, perhaps because it has not actually installed. | Re: Stop program from installing I think I first noticed this problem after a recent Blackberry update. I tried running the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility, but I get an error message to the effect that an installation is in progress. I wonder about trying to restart in Safe Mode and then running WICU. "Jose" <jose_ease******.com> wrote in message news:4ebf5747-6e62-4f4d-bfd4-c99a7700a9e8@d21g2000yqn.googlegroups.com...
