| URL:Mailto protocol missing in File Types. Hello all, need some advice, any help appreciated. I am running Windows XP Home Edition, SP2 and i have six profiles on the desktop for logon. My profile is working fine, the URL:Mailto protocol is there. The other five profiles are missing this file type in Windows Explorer,Folder Options,File Types. I was able to create a URL:mailto using this document, which i am working off, best advice i could find. http://windowsxp.mvps.org/MailtoProtocol.htm Looking at the mailto key, on my profile, in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \Software\Classes\mailto shows that under Permissions only me & administrator have access. Both have 'special permissions', under the Advanced button it shows both me & system with Full control/Not Inherited/Applies to this key only/ & the box at the bottom is checked, that box's name starts with Inherit From Parent. I tried adding one of the five profiles to the permissions and was successful thinking that would solve the problem, it did not. I tried creating the URL:mailto on one of the five affected profiles using that document above and was successful but it seemed to erase the other so i restored. Can someone point me in the right direction, thanks. jimmy |

When i applied the mailto reg file, not only did it clobber my good profile(obviously, duh!) but it also removed the "open" command under the URL:mailto File Type when hitting the Advanced button. Long story short, the permissions for the mailto reg key got clobbered, was getting "cannot import FILENAME, not all data was successfully written to the registry. Some keys are open by the system or other processes." when trying to import the mailto reg key. Reset the permissions on the 'mailto' reg key, http://windowsxp.mvps.org/MailtoProtocol.htm Then was able to import the 'mailto' reg file successfully, everything works. I am running XP Home Edition with OutLook & IE7, i used this 'mailto' reg file to correct everything. http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,10701268 later, jimmy |
