| Image software/utility Is there a good but FREE image program? I used Ghost some years back using ME/98 but most of the time it didn't restore image - when needed. Furthermore if I format a system partition, will i be able to restore image without installing XP? Cause I am using NTFS. |

| Re: Image software/utility Yes i can. but as i asked "GOOD" which you can only judge by your personal experience. I already googled before asking here, which came out with 78 programs on first page only - i clicked. I think you should learn from Airman Basic. If you dont know leave it. Don't think it cares, but try it and see. |

It'll make an image of pretty much anything you want, and doesn't rely on an OS to create or restore one. By creating the boot disk with it, you bypass any installed OS and create the image from the root level. I've used it to create and restore an XP PC and a Vista notebook with absolutely no problems. You just have to have a Seagate drive installed, either internal or external. It lacks the ability to schedule backups but otherwise just as good as the full version. -- Roy Smith Windows XP Pro SP3 |

| Re: Image software/utility I think you need Acronis installed to be able to explore and verify its image. After all, it is proprietary. When ATI is installed, there is the option within it to verify the image it creates. PLUS you can use windows explorer to peek at files within its image (as long as ATI is installed) Farhan wrote: > Thanx, I have done that, but is there a program from acronis with which i > can explore the created image? > i remember Norton has one but not finding one on acronis site. > > Farhan > "SC Tom" <sc@tom.net> wrote in message > news:eNTh5icXKHA.4148@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... >> >> "Farhan" <farhan********.com> wrote in message >> news:%23zVFMt2WKHA.220@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... >>> Is there a good but FREE image program? >>> I used Ghost some years back using ME/98 but most of the time it didn't >>> restore image - when needed. >>> >>> Furthermore if I format a system partition, will i be able to restore >>> image without installing XP? >>> Cause I am using NTFS. >>> >>> >>> >>> >> >> If you have a Western Digital, Seagate, or Maxtor drive (either installed >> in the PC or used as an external drive), you can get Acronis True Image >> for free from their web sites.
