| Turning off "Your computer might be at risk...." Prompt? I have "automatic updates" explicitly turned off. Windows XP keeps nagging me "Your computer might be at risk. Automatic updates is turned off. Click this balloon to fix..." Any way to suppress this? -- PeteCresswell |

Untick Automatic Updates. I think I have a different panel. Mine has three radio buttons: - Download updates... but let me choose when to install - Notify me but don't automatically download or install - Turn off automatic updates I had the first one selected, changed it to the last one - in the spirit of your advice. -- PeteCresswell |

On the bottom left click: Change the way Security Center Alerts me and take action. Or a shortcut is: Click Start, Run and in the box enter: wscui.cpl Click OK, then on the bottom left click: Change the way Security Center Alerts me and take action. |

Amongst other things, I'll do a system save before letting any substantial number of updates happen. After a most annoying incident in the medium past. |

OPen the Security Center (Start - Control Panel - Security Center) and on the left side at the bottom click where it says "Change the way Security Center alerts me". You can turn off the alerts for Autoamtic updates, your Antivirus and firewall by clicking to clear the check mark. -- Roy Smith Windows XP Pro SP3 |
