Wireless Card Issue

Hi,

I just got a used dell laptop, it's ok, but the Dell 1370 WLAN Mini PCI Card
Utility won't open. It did at first, and I think the culprit was updating
from XP Home SP2 to XP Home SP3.

The connection still works fine, but when I try to open the utility, I get
"Internal configuration is inconsistent. Please start the machine to
resolve problem". Well restarting the machine didn't fix it. I went to the
Dell site, and did find something on this but wasn't much help. I also did
a full Web search and came up empty.

I know this is not the place to post this, but what the heck, I just may get
lucky.

Thanks,

Mark

Uninstall the software and driver for the hardware.
Visit Dell's website and download the latest software and driver for this
device.
Reboot.
Install the latest driver and software for this device.

When you got this laptop - you did format it and start from scratch, right?

It should also be noted that some wireless manufacturer's bundled
management accoutn will not work if XP's Wireless Zero Configuration
system is "enabled."

If I acquired a used computer, no matter who previously owned it, the
first thing I would do with it would be to reinstall the operating
system cleanly. You have no idea how the computer has been maintained,
what has been installed incorrectly, what is missing, what viruses and
spyware there may be, etc. I wouldn't want to live with somebody
else's mistakes and problems, possibility of kiddy porn, etc., and I
wouldn't recommend that anyone else do so either.
