It's a good idea to check this newsgroup for similar posts before starting a
thread of your own. Two hours ago another poster asked "
When will MS Drop support for XP?" . . .

Seriously? Are we going to see a rash of these as October 22, 2009
approaches?

No one can use Internet search engines? heh

*sigh* April, 2014 - they will stop putting out updates for Windows XP with
SP3.

For those who want a more official quote than mine:
http://support.microsoft.com/lifecyc...=en-gb&C2=1173
Individually:
http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/?p1=3221
http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/?p1=3223
http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/?p1=3222
http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/?p1=7023
http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/?p1=7024
http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/?p1=3228
http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/?p1=7801
http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/?p1=8599

For the future - might I suggest an Internet search engine first? This
question has been asked several times over the years - and answered in much
the same manner as I have just done. Most - if not all - of those queries
are still out on the Internet and many are indexed by the various Internet
search engines.

For example - a Google search using your words (including spelling errors):
http://www.google.com/search?q=Has+M...support+for+XP

Gives this hit first:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/lifecycle/default.mspx

Which will lead you to (if you try and look):
http://support.microsoft.com/lifecyc...=en-gb&C2=1173

Now maybe you don't understand what "Extended Support" is... The table
under #3 explains it...
http://support.microsoft.com/gp/lifepolicy

Basically - you'll still get security updates, be able to browse the
Knowledge Base articles and pay for further help (at ~$59/incident) if you
need to.

If you have not installed SP3 - I suggest you do so before 7/13/2010. At
that point - you may not be able to install updates onto the Windows XP
operating system after that date if you do not already have SP3.

Did you actually read the responses to the post you were directed to?
http://groups.google.com/group/micro...9539fa2da6090/

Have you read the other responses to your post and gone to the links
provided?
( One's the same, practically. ;-) )

Internet search engines - fantastic tools. ;-)

You are *in* the extended support period.

What do you consider "support"? Your message headers:

X-Newsreader: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2900.2180
X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V6.00.2900.2180

reveal that you are running a very old and less secure version of OE. IE,
and XP in general.

Support means visiting Windows Updates and keeping your computer up to date.
You are running a bare-bones version of XP/SP2 and are more than five years
behind in updates, AKA "support".

If you patch your computer with all critical SP2 updates, support will
continue until April, 2010.

If you install SP3, support will continue until April 2014.

People keep referring to the end of SP2 support as being April 2010... Even
I have done it.

Is that correct - or ... ?
http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/?p1=6794

Service Pack Retires:
July 13, 2010

Will they continue to push out updates that will install on SP2 or SP3
patched machines until the actual retirement date?

No matter what their public policy, any company will provide support if
you are willing to pay them huge sums. Of course, you could then just
hire your own support.

I wonder, but your link is saved and duly noted.

As for the OP, I stand by: Support = Updates.

Now install all critical security updates offered at
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com. You're missing at least one, according
to your headers (Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2900.5512).

Then enable Automatic Updates to stay fully-patched!
