You could try disabling and then enabling the USB ports in device manager. |

If this is OK then it sounds like a hardware fault. You could add a USB controller card if you have a spare PCI slot. |

| Re: usb no longer works You may wish to try uninstalling the software of the webcam and memory stick and reinstall it see if that can cause the USB to switch back on -- All the Best Josh Chandler http://www.techoriphic.com "M" wrote: > "murph399" <murph399@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:6C7E2594-1A73-45BB-A88E-56D46DD4157E@microsoft.com... > > > > > > tried restoring back a couple of times, disabled usb controllers and > > rebooted, all to no avail. even took the drastic step of system recovery. > > still the same. took webcam and memory sticks to a mates and tested on his > > comp, worked fine there. totally out of ideas now > > Probably the only thing left is to check that USB hasn't become disabled in > the BIOS. | Re: usb no longer works Sometimes motherboard fails to supply proper current to usb devices. What I suggest is that buy an external powered usb hub. This hub has an option to provide power from outside . Then connect your devices to this hub. I struggled with this problem for an year, than finally solved by using external powered USB hub. Please dont forget to post reply. Nikhil |

| RE: usb no longer works Hi. I have had this problem for 12 months when a card reader did the same thing. Could not get it sorted. Recently bought Tomtom sat nav guess what same problem. Tried everthing suggested and a few more besides. Then I removed the logitec webcam pro5000 usb lead plugged in the tomtom and hey presto it works fine. Downloads etc with no problem. As the tomtom is more important to me I am resisting plugging in the webcam. Could there have been some kind of device conflict, although nothing showed up. I am a novice really at all this and only sorted it by trail and error. Best of luck Speedy "murph399" wrote: > switched on today and webcam and memory sticks not working.
