| easiest way to clean a HD? I got a new SATA hd. Cloned my opsys hd onto it and booted to it after disconnecting the original. Now I need to erase the info off that HD, and also a couple of others. If I connect it and boot into XP, it will probably confuse the hell out of XP. Any ideas? Probably something I can use w/o booting into XP... I have Linux but don't know what to use... I could also use a Seagate CD, but that would probably take forever, zeroing it out... It won't confuse XP if things are set up to boot off the new SATA drive, then connect the drive, boot into the OS off the new drive, and delete whatever files you want off the old drive or format it. -- Rock [MVP - User/Shell] |

If you wish to do a more thorough job of protecting your personal data, WipeDrive (http://www.whitecanyon.com/wipedrive...hard-drive.php) meets U.S. DoD standards for securely cleaning surplus unclassified hard drives, and could be used before formatting and reinstalling the OS and applications. -- Bruce Chambers Help us help you: http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. -Benjamin Franklin Many people would rather die than think; in fact, most do. -Bertrand Russell |

Then I used Heidi erase DOD 7pass to erase them. Then tossed them (2 20gb old Maxtor drives that squeal - single 20gb partition). In a week or 2 I will do the same thing to the drive I just cloned (connect it, then DOD 7pass), and then save it, or leave it connected for backup. Heidi erase is what I have used for a long time for files.
