| need help: dual monitor with a tablet PC, pen cursor ends up on other monitor I have a Compaq tc4400 tablet PC running XP and a docking station with a flat panel monitor. (A) Since I am right handed I want my tablet on the right and the docking station monitor on the left (both physically and vitually). (B) I want my desktop to be on the docking station monitor and the docked tablet to be the secondary monitor since I only need it for documents that I want to use my pen on. (C) I don't want to have to adjust a dozen settings to get this everytime I dock. I have encountered two problems trying to do this: (1) Using the display options/settings I can get the monitors to be in the correct virtual orientation (i.e. tablet on the right and docking station monitor on the left), but even if I save this as a graphics scheme, the virtual positions always return to the wrong orientation (monitor 1, the tablet, on the left and monitor 2, the docking station monitor, on the right) next time I dock, even if I pick that save scheme. It's like it saves everything but the virtual positions. (2) So I finally figured out how to make the docking station monitor, monitor 1, and it automatically becomes my desktop, AND it on the correct side (i.e. left) AND I was able to save it as a graphics scheme that actually retains all these features. I thought I was in heaven, but then I tried my pen on the tablet and cursor showed up on the docking station monitor?!?!? (and, by the way moving, in the opposite direction of my motions, but I don't care about that since I need the cursor on the tablet to make it useful anyway). I've looked for a function in XP and the pen utilities to switch the cursor to the other monitor, but have found nothing. Can someone help me with these two problems (the second one is more critical, since it is closer to what I really want, but I would like to know the answer to the first issue, too)? |

| A mouse is using relative coordinate that cursor’s movement is based on the current cursor position. Mouse does not know what the display orientation is but moves by user’s control. The tablet is a pointing device and is using absolute coordinates; that is (0,0) at top left corner and (max_X, -max_Y) at bottom right. Therefore, the cursor goes to wherever the pen is pointing at and ignores the current cursor position. In your case, the primary display is at left and its origin is (0,0). The tablet PC is at right as a secondary display and its origin will be (1024,0). The tablet (input device) is a separate device from the monitor (output device); it is just happening underneath the tablet monitor. The tablet, likes the mouse, has no way to know what the display orientation is now unless is set by the user via a utility and device driver. You can call ”mapping” or “set tablet offset” utility that tells the device driver to reference an oriented coordinates. You can find a reference info at http://www.writescreen.us/downloads/2nd%20display%20and%20rotation.pdf this file. Your issue can not be solved by O.S. but only by the tablet vendor. Until then, your tablet cursor always goes to the primary display. |
