color vertical lines

Hello,
Problem: 2 instances within a month.
Unit is powered on every AM and powered off every PM.
When unit was turned on after Bios screens appear
and before Windows Desktop appears. The screen
changed into colored lines.
Shut down using power on/off was needed.
Second time (3-4 weeks later) powering on-off (twice) did
not help. Used GoBack and unit restored to last shutdown.
No problems indicated in hardware or software,
using Device Manager and Event Viewer. Unit works
without problem after each instance.
Video card has v91.47 driver from Nvidia site.
Using Windows XP Home SP2 all updates, (oem generic).
Unit was repaired in August, 2006 due to a power
problem from a extremal Fire-wire power port.

Motherboard - processor - video card - power supply -
56k modem and memory were replaced.
Installed DFI MB with Intel 865pe chipset, Intel P4 3GHz processor,
1.5 GB Micron memory, Nvidia fx6200 with 256 memory
video card, Viewsonic VG800b LCD monitor.
Researched in Nvidia newsgroups, no mention of this type
of problem that I could find for this card.
The monitor shows BIOS screens and GoBack screen and
beginning of OS screens properly.
Appreciate input.
Thank You.
take care.
beamish.

Had a similar problem on a client's pc about 10 days ago. He had been
told it was a bad harddrive. I watched it & guessed/analyzed it to be a bad
video card. Only had a cheapo in stock, tried it, and it solved the
problem. Client had already bought a new pc and was gonna give it to
10-year old grands, so we decided to leave the simple vid. card in. HTH, s

Hello,
Thank you for the information.
Thought it is interesting that using GoBack gave a good boot. This is why I
was thinking of a possible software issue.
Searching E-Bay for a card, no reason not to install a different card.
take care.
