Managing Shares

Hi,

I'm trying to create some shares to use in my LAN. In the Help, it states
that in Computer Management, I should be able to right-click on a created
share, choose Properties and be able to control access by users, etc.
Alternatively, if I right-click on the share in Windows Explorer, and choose
Sharing... I should get a dialog box with a Sharing tab that allows me to
remove the share,c reate a new share and name it, and set permissions on the
share. There should also be a Security tab that displays which users/groups
have what access.

However, when I try either method, the Properties choice is not there in
Computer Management and, in Windows Explorer, the Security tab isn't there,
and the Sharing tab looks quite different with no buttons for setting
permissions, or creating a new share, etc. The only fields are two
checkboxes labeled "Share this folder on the network" and "Allow network
users to change my files", and a field for typing the name of the share.

I'm running WinXP PRO SP2 with the latest updates, the file system is NTFS
and I'm a member of the Administrators group.

What am I missing?

Thanks

Disable Simple File Sharing, Control Panel -> Folder Options ->
View tab -> Uncheck "Use Simple File Sharing (Recommended).

You might want to do a little research on file sharing in XP
before you go any further. You can start with these articles.

How to disable simplified sharing and set permissions on a
shared folder in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307874/

How to set, view, change, or remove file and folder permissions
in Windows XP

Good luck
