Delete recovery image after making recovery disks?

p. 18 of HP's "PC Troubleshooting and Maintenance Guide" describes how to
make system recovery discs of operating system (Windows XP Media Center 2005)
and other software installed on PC from factory. It then says "After creating
the recovery discs, you can delete the recovery image if you would like to
make extra space available on your hard disk drive."

Should I do this? If so, how do I do this?

Presumably you do this with a partition manager such as
DiskDirector from Acronis. However, since your question
is specific to an HP machine and has nothing to do with
Windows, you should check the HP FAQs.

Re: Delete recovery image after making recovery disks?

So it's an HP thing and not a Windows XP thing! That helps a lot - thank you!

The recovery image is stored in a hidden partition on the hard drive. The
way to remove it is to delete that partition. But the particulars of the
setup are determined by HP since they set up the computer. Your best option
is to contact HP tech support for how best to do this.

Re: Delete recovery image after making recovery disks?

HP provides an utility for removing the recovery partition - information
about it is in the HP documentation.
When the recovery partition is created the master boot record is modified to
present the press F10 (or whatever) to do a system recovery.
Simply deleting the recover partition does not remove the MBR modification -
use of the Recovery Console would then probably be necessary.
