| Microsoft Updates Hi Is there a way to delete updates? Let me explain. When updates are detected the yellow/green shield tells me there are 3 (say) updates. I can choose CUSTOM to install the ones I want but cannot delete the third. It is always in the shield telling me there is an update waiting to be installed. I want to be able to delete it as I will never want it. It is IE7 by the way. Can I do this? Thanks |

| Re: Microsoft Updates Go to the Windows Update page and follow the bouncing ball, when you get the list of available updates, uncheck the one you don't want and then select the option to not show again, or hide, forget what they call it exactly. -- ---- Crosspost, do not multipost http://www.blakjak.demon.co.uk/mul_crss.htm How to ask a question http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555375 How to Post http://www.dts-l.org/goodpost.htm ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "MTC" <MTC@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:9B1E441E-995A-4243-8334-F79C82961AD4@microsoft.com... > Hi > > Is there a way to delete updates? | Re: Microsoft Updates Do NOT disable Automatic Updates (AU) to avoid installing IE7! Go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com > Allow the initial scan to complete > Select CUSTOM install > Scan again > Uncheck IE7 and "hide" it > AU now will not offer you IE7; or... Change your AU settings to Notify Only; When IE7 is offered, decline to install it and "hide" it. How to configure and use Automatic Updates in WinXP: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=306525 NB: If the installer for IE7 has already been downloaded by AU, you will need to stop the AU service, delete the installer (and any other updates already downloaded but not yet installed), and then restart the AU service. Follow these directions: 1. Start > Run > (type in) services.msc > [OK] Scroll down to and right-click on Automatic Updates service > Click Stop (Stopping the service will take a moment) > [OK] your way out and close the Services window. 2. Start > Run > (type in) %windir%\SoftwareDistribution > [OK] Open the Download folder, delete its contents, then close the folder. 3. Start > Run > (type in) services.msc > [OK] Scroll down to and right-click on Automatic Updates service > Click Start (Starting the service will take a moment) > [OK] your way out and close the Services window. -- Windows Update-specific newsgroup: news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof....windowsupdate ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE, OE, Security, Shell/User) MTC wrote: > Is there a way to delete updates?
