| Notebook Optical Mouse 700 and Intellipoint-Mouse Pause-Screen Fli I have a MS Notebook Optical Mouse 700 that is connected via USB. The Intellipoint drivers are the most current. I am running Windows XP, with all current patches. After installing this mouse, my mouse pointer occasionally pauses for about a second. Also, my screen flickers, and when this happens the pointer disapears until I move it. I often use AutoCAD LT 2000, so I am constantly using the mouse. Most people may not notice the momentary mouse freezing if they aren't using a graphics program. Any solutions, beyond trashing the mouse? Joe Dunfee |

| RE: Notebook Optical Mouse 700 and Intellipoint-Mouse Pause-Screen Fli One more problem with this mouse/driver. Often when I press the scroll wheel button (which is set to be the middle button), there is a pause before it is recognized. Joe Dunfee |

| RE: Notebook Optical Mouse 700 and Intellipoint-Mouse Pause-Screen Fli Update; I've restored my computer to a date before the mouse or intellipoint software was installed. Then I just plugged the MS Notebook Optical mouse in, and installed it as a generic HID mouse. The mouse works, but I get the same "pausing" as I had before. Another thing I didn't post about before is that this pausing of the mouse and flashing of the screen is variable in its frequency. There may be an hour where I don't notice it, and then it starts to get so bad that it is hard to work. Joe Dunfee |

From a blank area of the desktop right click, choose properties, settings tab, troubleshoot. Decrease the hardware acceleration to see if that helps. If it does and you only needed to move it one or two notches leave it as is. If it takes more then try updating the display drivers. -- Rock [MVP - User/Shell] |

I get a series of troubleshooting questions, but can't find anything to set the hardware acceleration. Windows help doesn't tell me how to do it either, when I search for "hardware acceleration". I've done a system restore, to before I put this mouse in, and gone back to using my older Logitech mouse, but the problem is still there. Joe Dunfee |

You used the Troubleshoot button. Lower the hardware acceleration slide for the mouse. If this helps, you probably need updated drivers for your graphics card. -- Joe =o) |

Ahh thanks I left out the Advanced button. -- Rock [MVP - User/Shell] |

| RE: Notebook Optical Mouse 700 and Intellipoint-Mouse Pause-Screen Fli Thank you Elmo and Rock for your replies, I think I have the problem vanquished for now. -Turning down hardware acceleration had no effect. -My computer (an Averatec Tablet/Laptop) has shared memory for the video. I increased it from 32 to 64 meg, but that had no effect. -I switched to an older Logitec optical mouse, and restored my system to a time before all this started. But, again, no change. -Finally, I started shut down some of the tasks running in the background (most notabably the keyboardsurrogate.exe program) and freed up about 50k of memory. The addtional free main memory did the trick. I've ordered some addtiional RAM for my computer for a more permanent solution. Joe Dunfee |

| Re: Notebook Optical Mouse 700 and Intellipoint-Mouse Pause-Screen Fli Nice detective work Joe, and thanks for posting back the resolution. | Re: Notebook Optical Mouse 700 and Intellipoint-Mouse Pause-Screen Some bad news. The problem is back, and didn't go away with the new memory (now 3/4 Meg) The problem seems to vary in its occurance. It might not show itself for a few hours, and start doing it a few times within one minute. It must be some sort of background task that is doing it. Another note is that the keyboard is not frozen, and the mouse movement is actually being tracked, but the screen display and any mouse clicks are somehow buffered, and then the screen is updated after the pause. I've run out of ideas to try. Joe Dunfee |
