Mouse Freezes Intermittently

Dear Readers:

I have XP Pro SP2 and I am running an AGP 128MB Accelerated Graphics card.
When I'm running certain software, my mouse freezes intermittently (and
sometimes just in the Windows Desktop itself) and then resumes functionality.
Sometimes it doesn't resume functionality, either because a particular
program that I was using became unresponsive, or because of an underlying
issue that I am seeking an answer about. Why do I have problems with the
mouse device? The keyboard doesn't freeze. It might help to state that the
mouse is a USB mouse, not PS/2.

Thanks in advance,
penciline

What software?

What if you...

Install SP3 and get the machine fully patched?

Replace the battery in the mouse, if there is one?

Check for and install updated drivers for the mouse?

Use another mouse?

Re: Mouse Freezes Intermittently

Well, I can't install SP3 because part of my system is incompatible
(software/hardware peripherals) and I don't know if those manufacturers will
update to SP3. I can try a different mouse, although I am partial to this
particular model. I will let you know what happens if I use a different
mouse. Stay tuned.

Re: Mouse Freezes Intermittently

If SP3 isn't install by April 2010, your computer will not be offered any
more critical security updates. Later next year, you won't even be able to
access Windows Update if SP3 isn't installed. Better get crackin' or
consider buying a new computer, d00d.

Re: Mouse Freezes Intermittently

Hello,

If your system has a PS/2 mouse port, use it instead of the USB port. Some
mice are not compatible with PS/2 ports via adaptors, check the
manufacturer's page for any pointers regarding this.
