Win XP domain login error

Hopefullly someone will be able to help me with this one...

I have a laptop that I disassembled and re-built into a picture frame.
It's bare bones, so no CD drive, no floppy drive, etc. I access is
over my network via 'Remote Desktop Connection' so I don't need a mouse
or keyboard hooked up to it all the time, but now I have a mouse and
keyboard hooked up to it since it has't been working.

It was working great for a few months, but the problem is that I did a
Windows Update, and after it restarted it went to the Win XP login
screen and came up with the error: 'The system cannot log you on now
because the domain Compaqxl340 is not available' (Compaqxl340 is the
laptop's full computer name given to it in the Remote Acesss settings,
don't know why that became a domain).

When I cancel out the error box and try and enter the Admin password
(the only user account i have on the laptop) it gives me the same error
again. There is no domain field to change the domain. CTRL/ALT/DEL
only prompts me to shutdown/restart/sleep. When I restart and press
F8 to give me safe mode options, safe mode starts to the exact same
login screen and error. Why is it trying to log me in via a domain
when I just want to log in locally? But there is no domain field, nor
does it come up when I press the 'Options' button.

Is there anything I can do so I can at least get the computer to log me
in and start up? Any changes to registry or boot files that can be
done via the command prompt? Remember, no floppy or CD drive.

Any help would be great. Thanks.
