Since DEP > kicks in when Windows attempts to execute code that resides in an area > reserved for data, the question is: What "copy utility" do you use? > Windows Explorer? I did not install or change anything prior to the DEP message. I can only restore to the point where DEP starting occuring. If I try to restore eariler than that, the restore fails with no explaination. Another issue started happening about the same time. Windows Automatic Update tries to install "Microsoft-Other Hardware-HID non-user input data filter (KB 911895). It fails to install and I am prompted repeatedly that new updates are available to install. Also if i try to do a manual update it fails also. Is this related to the original problem? Thanks for all of your help jj |

| Re: windows copy utility I mis-spoke the program that DEP has been shutting down. It is extended copy utility and it shows the publisher as windown corp. the exact error number: 0x80072ee2 and the supporting site is http://support.microsoft.com/kb/836941 I have tried all the fixes listed in the above link except method D because my sat internet will not work w/o the accelerator software running. i did go to the update page after trying the steps in the link and recieved three other updates and they installed fine. The "Microsoft-Other Hardware-HID Non-User Input Data Filter" still fails to update. Thanks jj "Pegasus [MVP]" <news@microsoft.com> wrote in message news:OBDzDqyAKHA.1476@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... > This is beginning to sound increasingly like malware or like a virus.
