| Need Windows 98 disc to reinstall Windows XP after a hard drive crash. Of course, I no longer have the Windows 98 disc. I'm stuck on a setup message asking me to verify that I "qualify to use this product upgrade." I've been using this product upgrade for at least 5 years. Any suggestions? Thanks. |

If you can borrow a disk from a friend, make a copy of it with ISO Recorder and keep it with your XP Upgrade disk. Then get Acronis True Image and keep an image of your system on an external hard drive so you can recover from the image the next time your hard drive fails. You won't need the install disks at all. |

I've been using this product upgrade for at least 5 years. You said that of course you no longer have the Windows 98 disk, but let me point out that when you use an upgrade version, the version you upgraded from becomes part of the license for the new version, and can't legally be separately sold or given away. You should have kept it for that reason and also because the possibility was always there that one day you might need it again. So now you don't have it and you need it. Buy another one. You should be able to get it inexpensively someplace like eBay. -- Ken Blake, Microsoft MVP - Windows Desktop Experience Please Reply to the Newsgroup |
