| Re: MSconfig & Services.msc questions With many, if not most services, if it starts properly there isn't anything recorded in the event log. I'm a bit surprised that the Browser service stops so readily when the Server service is running. I haven't really seen this happening but then all my machines are on LANs, or the service has usually always been set to manual if the machine is a stand alone. | Re: MSconfig & Services.msc questions This article on the browser service is a bit more detailed than what is mentioned in the services management console. Perhaps this will help to better understand why the browser service stops if it is not needed. Description of the Microsoft Computer Browser Service http://support.microsoft.com/kb/188001 I also use Acronis Enterprise Server for network backups and it has a few services it uses set at automatic which also stop when not needed anymore. The "Remote Agent" on the client machines stops until the "Group Server" on the remote server machine sends the client a request. The "Group Server" on the remote server stops until it gets a request from any of the client machines "Backup Server Service" service. As I stated previously, it's not typical but services can/do stop when not needed anymore. I guess we could look at these out-of-the-norm services as "on demand dependent". -- Brian A.
