| Startup problem loop! My computer has unexpectedly crashed after installing a software CD that accompanied a piece of CCTV hardware. The software installed fine and I have been using the program fine until I needed to restart after my copy of Microsoft Outlook crashed. Now the computer is stuck in a start up loop! As as soon as I get to the Windows XP Home screen the computer restarts automatically and returns to the plain black screen. I have tried each one of the options Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking, Start Windows Normally, Last Known Good...all of which makes no difference. I have the original Windows XP Pro installation CD-ROM disc. Is it possible to start up from my installation disc? Thank you. Dave |

| Re: Startup problem loop! Dave Please post a complete Stop Error report. Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Keep pressing the F8 key during Start-Up and select option - Disable automatic restart on system failure. Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure. After posting the Stop Error report disconnect all hardware except keyboard, mouse and monitor? Try a boot to safe mode. Are the keyboard mouse and monitor wired or wireless? -- Hope this helps. If you have a suitable boot CD (e.g. a Bart PE boot CD) then you can proably shorten the process by manually restoring one of the System Restore "System" hives to the c:\windows\system32\config folder. - On a humorous note: You write "My computer has unexpectedly crashed . . .". Do you sometimes expect your computer to crash? :-) |

| Re: Startup problem loop! DaveP72 You can test RAM. http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp What is your motherboard make and model? How many RAM sticks does your computer have? This freeware programme is excellent for getting information about your computer:Everest Home Edition (freeware) http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html Tip: To copy select Report, Quick Report, Plain Text, highlight required text, right click and select copy. However, whilst this is fine for posting small amounts of information into newsgroup messages longer reports will irritate other newsgroup subscribers.
