| No Extract on right-click after WinZIP uninstall I uninstalled WinZIP from a client's PC (Windows XP SP3), since Windows has ZIP file extraction built-in. However, the Extract All option is not available on right-click of ZIP files, and ZIP files do not appear with the ZIP folder icon. I can double-click the ZIP file and see the contents, then manually drag files out. How do I get back the native Windows XP ZIP-management environment? |

Now is a great time to point you to one of the easiest ways to find information on problems you may be having and solutions others have found: Search using Google! http://www.google.com/ (How-to: http://www.google.com/intl/en/help/basics.html ) Example... http://www.google.com/search?q=restore+Windows+XP+ZIP First hit: http://windowsxp.mvps.org/zipfldr.htm Come back - let everyone know if this helps. This message will be archived indefinitely - perhaps repolicated many times over. Your reply as to whether or not this helped might re-assure those who search for the same answer in the future. -- Shenan Stanley MS-MVP -- How To Ask Questions The Smart Way http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html |

| Re: No Extract on right-click after WinZIP uninstall Thank you. That did it. Gotta word it right to get results, though. Who would have thought that I would not get a usable hit when searching for: winzip uninstall windows xp restore, windows xp lost extract all, windows xp extract all winzip, and six or seven others, none of which returned usable results - just lots of stuff on other unzipping utilities and how to remove WinZIP. I should have thought to search on: restore native windows zip How obvious. Silly me. | Re: No Extract on right-click after WinZIP uninstall I did manage to extract that from Shenan's post, but thank you also for the clarification. I ran a lot of searches but never quite hit the right (and perhaps obvious) combination of terms to get it. Thank you again. | Re: No Extract on right-click after WinZIP uninstall Glad to hear it Brian. :o) With that said, this group should be able to help you with simple XP questions as yours without throwing out a reply as use Google. Added note: I am the first to say that I have noted the same for a poster asking question here that have to do with third party issues. -- All the Best, Kelly (MS-MVP/DTS&XP) Taskbar Repair Tool Plus! http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/taskbarplus!.htm "Brian" <Brian@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:12928F17-8D1C-4D40-8A1F-EE3FD0F5BAD8@microsoft.com... >I did manage to extract that from Shenan's post, but thank you also for the > clarification. I hope there is no implication there that all I did was tell the OP to use google... I did not - I gave them instructions and used their need as an example and gave them one of the better finds on the subject matter at hand. ;-) That way they get the answer they sought and an idea of another way (perhaps something completely new to them) of using the popular search engine. -- Shenan Stanley MS-MVP -- How To Ask Questions The Smart Way http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html |

| Re: No Extract on right-click after WinZIP uninstall Agreed. And thank you again. I just thought it was funny that I had tried several searches with no usable hits, and then your first search hit it right on. Sometimes the particular flavor the problem one encounters does not always immediately engender the use of the proper key words that return usable results. | Re: No Extract on right-click after WinZIP uninstall Nah, not at all, Shenan. :o) In his case: via google - "right click xp" would have worked easily. That being said, his learning curve is a bit higher than most - even for google. We sometimes forget to be simple. Besides, if all posters used Google we wouldn't have anyone to share our pointers with. :o) -- All the Best, Kelly (MS-MVP/DTS&XP) Taskbar Repair Tool Plus! http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/taskbarplus!.htm "Shenan Stanley" <newshelper******.com> wrote in message news:eGwotTi8JHA.1492@TK2MSFTNGP03.phx.gbl... > Kelly wrote: >> Glad to hear it Brian. :o) >> >> With that said, this group should be able to help you with simple XP >> questions as yours without throwing out a reply as use Google. >> >> Added note: I am the first to say that I have noted the same for a >> poster asking question here that have to do with third party issues. > > I hope there is no implication there that all I did was tell the OP to use > google... > > I did not - I gave them instructions and used their need as an example and > gave them one of the better finds on the subject matter at hand. ;-) > > That way they get the answer they sought and an idea of another way > (perhaps something completely new to them) of using the popular search > engine. > > -- > Shenan Stanley > MS-MVP > -- > How To Ask Questions The Smart Way > http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html > |
