SYSTEM HANGING UP FREQUENTLY

Around 2-3 days back, while I was working upon a heavy Excel file, my
computer hung up and I had no other way but to switch off the computer
directly. However, thereafter the computer usually starts with the message of
“Active Desktop Recovery” on the wallpaper and also after 10 minutes or so,
while the system is idle, it again hangs up.

It is notified that:

rundll32.exe - Corrupt File
The file or directory C:\Documents and Settings\faraz.qureshi\Local
Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Wallpaper1.bmp is corrupt and unreadable.
Please run the Chkdsk Utility.

Upon clicking the button “Restore my Active Desktop” it is also conveyed
that there is some script error.

I ran the CHKDSK but nothing special declared. Similarly the file
C:\Documents and Settings\faraz.qureshi\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Wallpaper1.bmp is also not being deleted. Upon pressing
Shift+Delete it is declared:

Cannot delete Wallpaper1: The file or directory is corrupted and readable.

Upon an attempt to view such a file it is again notified:

GrooveMonitor.exe - Corrupt File
The file or directory C:\Documents and Settings\faraz.qureshi\Local
Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Wallpaper1.bmp is corrupt and unreadable.
Please run the Chkdsk Utility.

Please see if any of you can help in this regard.

Thanx in advance.

Best Regards,

Faraz

Re: SYSTEM HANGING UP FREQUENTLY

Try testing your HD it is the most common reasons for computer freezing. Use
TESTDISK from the Linux System Rescue CD.
