I am running WinXP Pro SP2. All current updates installed. For over a year, I
have been getting a default beep (The Windows ding.wav) when I start Internet
Explorer7 (and when it was IE6). Any new tab window I open in IE, I get the
beep. Also, my PC gives the default beep when I turn it off. I have checked
event viewer and find no errors. Everything appears to run fine but I am so
tired of the annoying beep. There must be a reason for it, but not one I have
found. Any help in trying to locate the cause for this behavior would be
greatly appreciated.

Start>Control panel>Sounds and Audio Devices> Sound tab - program events.

Thanks for responding AJR. By doing what you listed, that was how I
discovered that it is the ding.wav which is set for the Windows Default Beep
playing everytime I open a new window in IE as well as when I shut down the
PC. I have been searching Microsoft, Microsoft Newsgroups, and Google. I have
found others who have listed the same problems but no reasons or fixes. I
just found one under Google that suggest that a third-party (maybe Norton)
pop-up blocker is the cause of the Default Beep sounding when I open a new
window in IE. But that also doesn't explain the Default Beep sounding after
playing the Exit Windows Shutdown.wav when I turn my PC off. Any other ideas
out there?
