Lost Favorites in MSN Premieum

One day when I signed on to MSN, I found that all my
favorites had vanished. When i started replacing them and tried to organize,
make folders etc, the screen would lock up and say "LOADING". Now when i
sign on, the home page is blank with the message "LOADING". I have tried
everything I know to correct it. I tried Tech Services with no success.

thanks

Re: Lost Favorites in MSN Premieum

The OP could log in to http://favorites.live.com using INTERNET EXPLORER and
see if there is anything there to salvage. If there is, he could make a
backup to a local disk file.

Re: Lost Favorites in MSN Premieum

Fyi...
Windows Live Favorites is now an online folder and part of Windows Live SkyDrive.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Live_Favorites
<qp>
Windows Live Favorites was discontinued on April 14, 2009 and replaced by Windows Live SkyDrive. All existing favorites saved on
Windows Live Favorites were migrated to the "Favorites" folder on Windows Live SkyDrive.[1]
</qp>

Another 'name' evolution :)

Support for Windows Live Favorites
As you already know, you can keep your favorites in sync between computers using SkyDrive and the Windows Live Toolbar. Now, the
next time you visit your favorites on Windows Live, your existing favorites will automatically move to SkyDrive. You can check it
out here: http://favorites.live.com

Re: Lost Favorites in MSN Premieum

Not sure if this will work or not...which is why I didn't mention it earlier..because the Favorites.xml file has to be present and
contain data in MSn Premium.

Assuming the file is present and something else is wrong with accessing the file via Msn Premium, this might offer some help.

Then I suggest that you contact MSN Support:
http://support.msn.com - sign in with your subscribed account LiveID (MSN email)
and you will see your support options.
It may be a server side account issue.

Re: Lost Favorites in MSN Premieum

Using MSN 7.02 you are not likely to get any support. My reply was meant for
"Guy" who I assume is a subscriber to MSN and using the latest version (9.6) of
the MSN Explorer software.
If your are using the free 7.02 version, you are really on your own,
unfortunately.

Re: Lost Favorites in MSN Premieum

If the Favorites folder has the "system" attribute set it
won't appear in the Organize Favorites window.

Copy the string below (no word-wrap! only one line!) and
paste it into the Run box:

%WinDir%\system32\attrib.exe -S -H %UserProfile%\Favorites /S /D

Re: Lost Favorites in MSN Premieum

Try again...
MSn Favorites are not stored in that location. All that will do is modify the attributes for IE's Favorites.

In XP...as an example
\Documents and Settings\{Username}\Application Data\MSN6\UserData\{UID}
or
\Documents and Settings\{Username}\Application Data\MSNx\UserData\{UID}, where x is unique to your configuration/version
