| USB Hub not showing in XP My computer has the 4 USB ports used. I tried two different AC powered USB hubs and they do not show up in XP SP3.. Anyone knows why a USB hub doesn't show up but any device connected to a built-in USB port works fine? |

Are you looking in the right place ? Device manager --> Universal Serial Bus Controllers --> USB Root Hub Examine the above. Remove the HUB from the PC and see if the PC's device list changes. -- Dave http://www.claymania.com/removal-trojan-adware.html Multi-AV - http://www.pctipp.ch/downloads/dl/35905.asp |

You don't state WHERE the hub doesn't show up, so I'll assume Device Manager. If you are talking about a USB Hub that you connect to a USB Port on your system, they do not show up in Device Manager. USB Hubs just turn a single USB Port on your system to use multiple ports on the hub. I know because I HAD a Kingston USB 4-Port Hub. Now, if you meant that the hub does not show under Safely Remove Hardware, that MAY be a problem depending on how the hub works. I'm do not remember if my Kingston showed up there. The question is, do the USB Ports on your hub work? If they do, no problem. The only other question, the Kingston was a USB2 device so my system had to support USB2. Does Device Manager, Universal Serial Bus Controllers, list USB2 or "Enhanced" Host Controllers? If NOT, check your BIOS Setup and see if your motherboard has USB2 support and that it's enabled. If your motherboard DOES support USB2 but Device Manager does NOT have USB2 drivers, you need to install them. Note I had an experience with 2 Dell systems at work, where they DID support USB2 but Dell forgot to install USB2 drivers. Ended up going to Intel (the Dells used the Intel Chipset) and getting the latest chipset drivers from them. -- ======== Tecknomage ======== Computer Systems Specialist IT Technician San Diego, CA |
