Re: Search Enhancement Pack

Kelly:

I tried all of the "solutions" listed at http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load...253312453.html and http://www.microsoft.com/communities...&cr=&sloc=&p=1 .

Unfortunately, none of them worked. The Command msiexec /x {9C9CEB9D-53FD-49A7-85D2-FE674F72F24E} ran, but accomplished nothing.

I found "Choice Guard" as an entry in the Windows Installer Clean Up Utility on my computer, so I decided to uninstall "Choice Guard" using this Utility. Uninstalling "Choice Guard" had no effect on this problem. "Choice Guard" appears to be one of the components in the folders contained in C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Search Enhancement Pack.

I found a couple of Start Up entries for programs at C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Search Enhancement Pack by using the Microsoft Autoruns Utility, as described at http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/s.../bb963902.aspx . I unchecked these Start Up programs in this Autoruns Utility, but this had no effect.

I then decided to uninstall the components of Microsoft Windows Live on a piecemeal basis, and rebooted my computer after uninstalling each component of Microsoft Windows Live. By doing this, I hoped to isolate which component of Microsoft Windows Live was causing this pop up folder at C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Search Enhancement Pack to come up every time that I rebooted my computer. Eventually the above mentioned Start Up programs in this folder disappeared from the Microsoft Autoruns Utility.

I ultimately deleted every component of Microsoft Windows Live on my computer, but I still got this obnoxious pop up folder at C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Search Enhancement Pack every time that I rebooted my computer. So I deleted this folder, which was the only remaining "solution" that I could think of to fix this problem. My problem was finally "fixed".

After deleting all of the components of Microsoft Windows Live, Microsoft Update informs me that Microsoft Windows Live (as Microsoft Windows Essentials) is ready to be installed on my computer with a "Download size: 0 KB , 0 minutes (Downloaded; ready to install)". Apparently all of the original downloaded folders that were used to install Microsoft Windows Live are still on my computer.

When I originally installed Microsoft Windows Live, I found the following Notes under "Windows Live Help":

"* If you use Firefox, Choice Guard is installed as an add-on when you install Windows Live programs, and is then automatically uninstalled that Firefox restarts, because it is no longer needed."

"* Choice Guard only changes your settings once, during the Windows Live installation process. If you change your settings again later, either programmatically or manually, Choice Guard doesn't interfere in any way."

For whatever it is worth, I do use Mozilla Firefox on my computer.

Re: Search Enhancement Pack

I noticed that I too had Choice Guard listed but fortunately I do not
get the pop up.

Went into Add/Remove>Windows Live Essentials with the idea of selecting
Change to see what is installed but it just freezes and no options are
given.

Did a search and found Choice Guard in Windows Office Live Add-in 1.3.
have you got this installed?

Re: Search Enhancement Pack

I found the easiest way to get rid of problem is Run/Msconfig/Startup.
Uncheck "WkDetect.exe" This Checks for updates to MS Works.
Check Apply.
