Strange problem - cannot adjust File Type Description of Microsoft files only !!

I have tried everything I can in vain, and finally decided to ask for
help.

We have three laptops running WIndows XP SP2 with the latest updates
applied. All three machines were equipped with Office 2003, Goldvision
CRM and IE6. We recently updated all the units to Office 2007 and IE7
(when we performed the updates).

When Office 2007 is installed it changes the file option parameter of
..DOT from "Microsoft Word Template" to the new "Microsoft Word 97-2003
Template".

This is an issue for the CRM package and Goldvision asked us to change
the description back to the original using EDIT FILE TYPE.

We did this on two of the units with no issue and the problems were
resolved.

On the third unit however, we are unable to change this option for any
Windows or Microsoft extension.

Even attempts to change it in the registry immediately reverts it back
to the value set by Office 2007.

We have the same AV and firewall software on all three units, as well
as ADAWARE on all three.

I have tried disabling all of these, as well as attempting to change
under SAFE MODE. No luck at all.

I have posted a HIJACKTHIS log file here:

Desperately need someone's help please.
