Uninstalling Windows Desktop Search

Hello,

Does anyone know how to uninstall Windows Desktop Search bar 3.0 from
Windows XP pro.

There isn't an Add/Remove programs entry (I have show updates checked)
There isn't an uninstall folder in my C:\Windows\
The program installed and reinstalled without error message but doesn't seem
to find anything. I've run a full index of my system and search for things i
know are there in plain text files never has search results.

I've found an entry in the installer log file KB917013.log that may explain
my problem:

0.891: CreateUninstall = 0,Directory = C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB917013$

but i don't what to do. I anybody knows of a better group to post to please
let me know

Thanks for any help

Gary

RE: Uninstalling Windows Desktop Search

can you give an example of the criteria used for searching for a .txt file?
search is part of the operating system, not a seperate function/program that
can be removed.
That uninstall entry appears to be a windows update or security patch but
really it's impossible to tell just from the name

Re: Uninstalling Windows Desktop Search

Thank you for the help. I did a google and found that page.
Sorry, i forgot to list that in my initial description of my state and
things that I've tried.

The search doesn't work at all. I've entered complete names of files that I
know had to be indexed and nothing comes back as a search result.

A control panel applet "Index Options" was installed a long a Windows Search
Deskbar. It's total lack of function makes it look like the install was not
successful regardless of Success dialog that showed at the end of the install

Thanks
