| XP activations with MSDN How scan I tell how many activations of XP I've used on my MSDN subscription? |

| Re: XP activations with MSDN I'm not sure there is a way. But why would you want to know, anyway? The number of time a XP is activated is irrelevant. If you need to activate on more than 10 devices then you can call MSDN customer service and request additional product keys. See the section on Product Keys and Activation at http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/sub.../aa948864.aspx for additional details. -- Tom Porterfield |

| Re: XP activations with MSDN I'm not positive but I believe the MSDN license is for ten concurrent installations. If you've installed it on ten pc's then erase it from one you could install it on another. I'm curious as to why you would need to activate it on so many pc's. The MSDN license (other than Office) is for testing and demonstration purposes. I generally don't activate MSDN licenses as they have a longer period before activation is required and I can usually do any needed testing within that period. The exception is virtual machines. I do have a couple of vm's that I have activated. -- Kerry Brown Microsoft MVP - Shell/User http://www.vistahelp.ca "johnl2765" <johnl2765@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:16EE88FB-D72A-497C-AB39-02C31D109B33@microsoft.com... >I thought I was only allowed to activate it on ten different machines with > each subscription? > > "John Barnett MVP" wrote: > >> I'm not sure there is a way. You can install/activate as many times as you like, but you are limited to 10 activations per product key. So if you need more than 10 activations then you call MSDN customer service to request additional keys. But as you say, they are for testing/demonstration purposes only. They cannot be used for production machines/applications. -- Tom Porterfield |

| Re: XP activations with MSDN Thanks for the correction. I wasn't sure. I mostly use Action Pack licenses so I haven't paid that much attention to the MSDN licenses. I assumed they were similar except for the product usage stipulations. -- Kerry Brown Microsoft MVP - Shell/User http://www.vistahelp.ca "Tom Porterfield" <tpporter@mvps.org> wrote in message news:uk96gR1MHHA.780@TK2MSFTNGP03.phx.gbl... > Kerry Brown wrote: >> I'm not positive but I believe the MSDN license is for ten concurrent >> installations. | Re: XP activations with MSDN John, I'm sorry your question was somewhat confusing Your question referred to 'activation' not the amount of machines you use. In that case you are allowed to install XP on 10 machines. If you already have your MSDN copy on 10 machines then you have used up your allocation. The way round it would be to remove a copy of XP from one machine and install it on a newer machine. Either way you must keep within the 10 PC limit. You obviously know whether you are using XP on more than 10 machines. If you are then you need to either buy additional copies of XP for each machine above your 10 limit or another MSDN subscription. -- John Barnett MVP Associate Expert Windows Shell/User Web: http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org Web: http://vistasupport.mvps.org The information in this mail/post is supplied "as is". You are limited to 10 activations per MSDN issued product key for products that require activation. However, if you need to install on additional machines beyond those 10 you can do so without purchasing any more licenses and without purchasing another MSDN subscription. You can call MSDN customer service and request additional product keys. Here is the relevant information from the MSDN FAQ: How many devices can I install the products on? In general, you can install MSDN software on any number of computers. However: - Only persons with MSDN Subscription licenses can use the software on any of the machines - Some products, such as Windows XP, require product activation, which may limit the number of computers on -which you can install and activate. See the section in this FAQ on Product Activation for more information. - If you are using Office for business purposes, you may only install on one computer. - Many product keys are only effective for 10 activations. An additional product key may be requested by calling MSDN customer service. How do I get a product key? Retail product keys are available from MSDN Subscriber Downloads. 1. Go to http://msdn.microsoft.com/subscriptions and sign in to the Passport network. If this is your first time signing in, you must then complete the registration process using your subscriber ID or benefit access number, name, and email address information on file. If you did not provide an email address when you activated your subscription, please contact MSDN customer service. 2. After signing in, follow the link to Subscriber Downloads and Product Keys. 3. In MSDN Subscriber Downloads, click the Product Keys link in the menu bar. MSDN Subscription product keys can be used to activate software on up to 10 PCs. An additional product key may be requested by calling MSDN customer service. Please see http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/sub.../aa948864.aspx for additional information. -- Tom Porterfield |
