I am running MS Office 2003, and have been for a long time. However, after
installing it on my new laptop, now each time I open the EXCEL application a
box pops up saying it is installing components! then after a few seconds it
opens.
Why is it doing this?

My os is windows xp - sp2.

Run a detect & repair on it (in Help) - or reinstall it from your
installation media, choosing "run all components from local computer" or
whatever it's called.
