Defender updated but warning it is NOT updated

I have Defender installed on my XP SP2 system which has worked
perfectly. Since the new year it has been warning me that it is not
updated.

My automatic updates is turned on and has since updated Defender but
it still gives the warning despite having got the latest definitions.

How can I make it understand this?

Any help appreciated.

Mary

The beta versions expired on 31 December 2006. If you have a beta
version it should be unstalled and you should download and install the
latest version of Windows Defender.

Hope this helps.

Happened to one of my systems as well. Interesting enough, only the
English version (1.1.1592.0) was concerned (installation failed) rather
than the German version (1.1.1593.0). Visiting the Microsoft Update site
and installing from there fixed the problem - the latest Definition
version on all of these machines is currently 1.14.2021.10 created on
January 3, 2007. Make also sure that there is no BETA version installed.

Open the logfile at Start > Run: %TEMP% and check for errors. See also

Windows Defender questions should be posted in one of the Defender
newsgroups.

See http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?t=23508

Defender final was released on 23 Oct-06. Support for Defender Beta2 ended
31 Dec-06. Upgrade ASAP:

See this KB article which has many suggestions & tips:

Microsoft has established separate newsgroups for Windows Defender support
and comments. This is not one of them.
