I've had this thought for years --- what if the Window's UI supports 2
cursors?

I like to draw, and when I draw, I draw with both hands. Not one hand
at a time, but both hands simultaneously. This is something that I've
trained myself to do since I was a kid.

But anyway, back to the 2 cursor thing --- if the Windows UI does
support 2 cursors, then I would be able to do more things at once.

In the age of multiple-core computers (with 8 cores coming out in a
year or so), the Windows UI is hopelessly out of date.

I've done some search on the Net for the idea, apparently there are
already others who have thought of this and are posting ideas:

basically is saying that if the computers support 2 cursors, than he
could put 2 mice on it, with one screen he use it for surfing the net,
and another screen his wife doing the account or his kid playing

There are at times with I use my digitizing tablets that I sense
there's something more that I could do if I can use BOTH of my hand in
the creation of my ideas.

Such as in CAD, for instance. With one mice, I have to do this in
sequence --- Create the X, Y, Z, and then specified them with added
value using the drop down menu.

With 2 pointing devices, I can use (for example) my right hand
defining the X, Y, Z axis with the digitizing tablet, in the meantime
my left hand, using the mouse, can click on the drop down menu to
associate specific characteristics to what my right hand is creating.

Hi, Penang. I happen (purely by chance) to have two mice in use but
only the ONE cursor. One USB mouse & another one in the back of the
box. (Same with the keyboards as the USB k'board was lacking in ops) I
was switching between two PC's and forgot to remove one. But your
concept is interesting as far as CAD goes. I take it that you have
gone deeper into this two-cursor idea, search-wise?

Methinks this concept could be expanded way beyond CAD.

Imagine a two-player game where both players compete and cooperate in
a game like "Asteroids".

How about drawing an animation sequence? Right hand adjusting the
movement (X/Y/Z) while left hand controlling the speed/time.

There are of course, much more applications whereby two mice can be
used together.

Let our imagination runs wild, for a change !

Maybe he was thinking of a couple of people swearing at each other
and was thinking "curser" (rather than cursor) <G>

Thanks for the update.

The answer to your question is "No", since all I'd done so far is just
a cursory search (no pun intended!) on the issue of using 2 mice.

It would at least give you new search criteria.

I used "simultaneous ambidextrous mousing" without the quotes and somehow
found that article which uses "two-fisted" and "bi-manual" mousing as terms.

Well, speaking as a 98er (though I do it on XP too), I _do_ use both
hands: one on the rat, and the other on a very old piece of technology:
the keyboard.

I find most software _can_ be used from the keyboard - some more easily
than others; on the whole, I consider the softwares that can't (or are
hard to) be used from the keyboard, to be badly written. No, I'm not one
of those disosaurs who _eschew_ the mouse - it has its place, and there
are things (such as, indeed, CAD) where it is the better tool, by far;
however, if you learn the keyboard alternatives, you may well find you
get there _more quickly_ with the keyboard.

I would say that the mouse comes into its own where you are moving its
pointer to actually achieve a result: in drawing, but also for example
highlighting (large) areas of text.

Just try, for a day, using the mouse to actually draw, and the keyboard
for anything that involves buttons, entering values, drop-down menus,
and the like. You'll curse me initially, but by the end of the day
you'll be surprised ...

(I am always amazed to see some people filling in a web form; they type
in one box, mouse to the next, type, mouse, type, mouse, then mouse to
the Send/Submit/OK button. They haven't twigged that the tab key means
they don't have to take their hands off the keyboard ...)

I'm not against the idea: I think a dual cursor concept has great
possibilities. I read somewhere of a system that used them (I think
using two fingers on a touchpad - might have been Vista, or a beta of
Windows 7) to implement zoom, for example.

As for the guy who wanted to play a game while his wife did the accounts
- I'm sure it _could_ be done, but why on earth not just use two
computers? (Networked if necessary. And that, probably, for the
multiplayer games, too.)
